What is DGB20 road base?
DGB20 is a dense graded base with particles from 20 mm down to fine dust. That full spread of sizes is the point: the fines lock the larger stones together under compaction, giving a dense, stable layer that will not shift under wheels, slabs or pavers.
It is the standard base material for driveways, car parks, footpaths, shed slabs and pavement construction across Sydney.

How much do I need?
Road base is usually laid at 100 mm to 150 mm compacted depth for driveways, more for heavy vehicle areas. As a rule of thumb, allow about 2.1 tonnes per cubic metre, then add 10 to 15 percent for compaction.

DGB20 or DGS40?
DGB20 is the dense graded base — the upper structural layer directly under concrete, asphalt or pavers. DGS40 is the dense graded sub-base: the same idea with particles up to 40 mm, used as the deeper, cheaper bulk layer in thicker pavements such as commercial car parks and access roads. Recycled or natural road base?
Recycled DGB20 is crushed from clean concrete and brick; natural DGB20 is crushed from virgin quarried rock. For driveways, sheds, paths and most car parks, recycled base compacts just as hard at a lower cost, and keeps demolition material out of landfill.
